Meet Elena Dementieva, born October 15, 1981, in Moscow, a retired Russian tennis star who went pro in 1998. She climbed to world No. 3 in singles and stacked up 16 WTA singles titles. She made it to two Grand Slam finals in 2004 – French Open and US Open – but didn’t snag the trophy. Still, she copped a gold medal in women’s singles at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and a silver at the 2000 Sydney Olympics.
